Vestibular Testing - VORTEQ® and DVA-Test

VORTEQ/DVA Brochure
Science
VORTEQ® is designed to provide information about the Vestibular Ocular Reflex (VOR) in patients with dizziness or balance problems. VORTEQ® offers researchers and clinicians a simple and inexpensive method to evaluate VOR gain, phase and symmetry. The Dynamic Visual Acuity (DVA) Test measures visual acuity during head motion. The DVA-Test provides valuable information about the Visual Vestibular Ocular Reflex (VVOR) in well subjects (pilots, athletes) in addition to patients with vestibular deficits.

Technology

VORTEQ® utilizes an angular velocity sensor mounted directly to the VisualEyes™ FireWire Binocular Goggles. With the VisualEyes™ Monocular Goggles, the angular velocity sensor is attached to the back of the goggles headband for VORTEQ® testing and to the front of a separate headband for DVA testing. This solid state sensor produces an electronic waveform that is proportional to head angular velocity (deg/sec).

Configuration
VORTEQ® and DVA-Test are bundled together and sold either as a complement to the VisualEyes Video ENG or as a standalone unit. Our Spectrum software allows you to conduct the following tests at the specified velocity ranges:

Vestibular ocular reflex (VOR) (± 500 degrees/second)
Visual enhanced VOR (VVOR) (± 500 degrees/second)
Dynamic visual acuity (DVA) (± 250 degrees/second)

Comparisons between static and dynamic acuity at selected test frequencies can be quickly evaluated.  The DVA-Test is scored using the log Mean Angle Resolvable (logMAR) scale that allows visual performance scores to be precisely quantified and statistically analyzed.

Rehabilitation
VORTEQ® is particularly useful for serial testing to help quantify VOR improvements during Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT).
